What Casper Cloaking Film Does
Glass conference rooms and offices keep a workplace open and full of daylight, but they also put the screens inside on display. Anyone walking past can read what is on a monitor or a wall display.
Casper is an architectural film made by Designtex. It contains a layer that selectively filters light, so compatible screens look blank when viewed through the glass from outside the room, while the view into and out of the room stays clear. Designtex describes the film as having only a slight tint, under 5%.
Which Screens Does Casper Work With?
Casper is made for digital displays, and how well it works depends on the screen. That is why we test it in front of your actual screens before installing.
- Works with: most office LED displays at least 40 inches wide, such as large monitors, televisions and video walls, according to Designtex. That is the screen’s actual width, not the diagonal size televisions are sold by, so a “43 inch” television may be narrower than 40 inches.
- Varies: displays narrower than 40 inches may cloak fully, partly or not at all, and results can differ even between screens of the same model.
- Usually does not work: most touchscreens, phones and other small devices.
- Does not work: projectors, and older CRT and plasma screens.
The effect is strongest when the screen is viewed straight on at eye level. From a sharp angle very close to the glass, or with displays at tabletop height, some screen content may show.
Casper hides what is on a screen. It does not hide people, paper documents or the room itself. Where the room also needs visual privacy, Casper can be combined with privacy window film. Casper is visual screen privacy, not cybersecurity: it keeps passersby from reading compatible screens, but it does nothing to protect the computers or networks behind them.
How a Commercial Window Film Project Works
Every commercial window film project starts with the existing glass, framing conditions, exposure level, and operational requirements of the building.
Glazing Inspection
Review existing glass type, frame condition, exposure, access points, and project goals.
Recommended Film Type
Test the film in front of your actual screens to confirm they cloak and to set the correct film orientation.
Installation Coordination
Coordinate installation around occupied storefronts, schools, offices, or active facilities.
Completed Retrofit
Final walkthrough with you, and the film warranty sent by email when the film carries one.
Why Casper Is Tested Before It Is Installed
Casper is directional. Depending on the display, the film may need to run vertically or horizontally to cloak it, and some displays will not cloak in either direction. Before installing, we hold a sample against your screens, with the screens on, to confirm they cloak and to find the correct orientation for the film. Anything between the screen and the glass, such as another pane of glass or film, can change the result.
The film comes in 48 inch wide rolls, so glass wider than 48 inches may need a seam. During the assessment we review the glass sizes and tell you whether a seam is needed and where it would fall. Casper goes on the inside of the room that holds the screens, using a wet application, and the adhesive cures over several days.
